Picasa 2  + Hello + Blogger

How to Create your own PhotoBlog

The object of this lesson is to show you how to create your very own PhotoBlog so you can very simply share your photos and thoughts with friends and family on the web.    The simple part comes with 'choosing your photo, pushing a button, creating a caption, and publishing'.   That all comes after some, let's just say 'non-intuative' setting up procedures.

You'll need:

1. Picasa2 loaded and ready on your computer.  You can download it here: http://www.picasa.com for free.

2.  Hello downloaded onto your computer.  You can download it and go through the setup steps by pressing the 'Hello' Button  in Picasa.

3.  A Blogger account   www.blogger.com

First, what IS a BLOG you ask?

A short term for web log, a personal journal published on the Web. Blogs frequently include philosophical reflections, opinions on the Internet and social issues, and provide a "log" of the author's favorite web links. Blogs are usually presented in journal style with a new entry each day.  A PhotoBlog simply adds photos to that.

Here is a sample, my photoblog:   http://hotshot41.blogspot.com

So, Step 1 should be setting up account with Blogger:

Step 2:  Get 'Hello' software and account

  • Open Picasa and highlight a photo.  It's not important which one right now.

  • Click on 'Hello' button.  It's located in the center of the row of buttons at the bottom of Picasa

  • A webpage will open.  Follow the steps to signup for 'Hello'.  (hint: try to use the same username/pass to keep things simple)

  • Download 'Hello' and follow the setup instructions.

Those were the hardest steps to get through.  But once you're setup it becomes really simple.

  • Open Picasa.  Choose a photo you'd like to put in your photoblog by highlighting it.  Click the 'Hello' Button in Picasa.

  • The 'Hello' program will open.  Choose the friend you want to send the photo to; in this case 'Bloggerbot' is your friend.

Your photo should appear in the window.   At the bottom right you'll see a window 'Enter a Caption for your Photo Here'

  • Enter text in that window that fits your Photo.  (You can type quite a bit...not just a one liner).

  • Click the 'Publish' button at the bottom right

Voila!  You've just published a photo to your PhotoBlog!   Your photo will be uploaded and a webpage should open to show your most recent entry.

No need to resize photos....Hello will do that for you.  Your Photoblog will display a small web size photo that is clickable so others can also see a bigger version of it.   The size options you can set in Hello.  You can also just publish TEXT only by choosing the graphic supplied by Hello/Picasa/Blogger and typing text in the same box and PUBLISHING.   The graphic doesn't load, only your new blog entry.
