Picasa 2
Graduated Tint with a touch of Saturation Effect
or
Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds
The object of this lesson is to familiarize yourself with the 'Graduated Tint' effect in Picasa 2. You have a wonderful landscape photo with a great sunset. Maybe the sunset didn't come out in the picture the same way you saw it with your eye. Or maybe we just want to make the sky a little more colorful.
We'll use the following effects or buttons in Picasa 2:
Graduated Tint
Saturation
Color Temperature Slider(not necessarily in that order)
In this lesson we'll go step by step to make the sky and overall feeling of the photo a little warmer in some basic steps. The graphics might be a bit heavy on this page for those on dialup, but by the time your read this really, really, really, really long sentence they should be finished loading. Maybe even go make yourself a cup of coffee. Read the newspaper, do your taxes. You know you've been putting them off...by the time you get your refund these graphics should be done.
Find one of your landscape photos with a good skyline; maybe even one where the rest of the photo looks great but the sky is washed out. I chose this one taken on my vacation last year to Prince Edward Island. This was the view from our tent one evening. A nice picture in and of itself, but I thought it could be better:
Not a bad photo on it's own. But, let's see how we can enhance it. Notice there is not much color in the sky.
1. Open Picasa 2 and find the image you want to edit:
2. Once you have your photo enlarged for editing, click on the 'Effects' Tab:
3. Click on 'Saturation' square:
